Flower Care
Taking care of fresh flowers is important to ensure they stay fresh and vibrant for as long as possible.
Here are some general tips for caring for fresh flowers:
Trim the stems:
When you receive fresh flowers, trim about 1 inch off the bottom of the stems at a diagonal angle using a sharp pair of scissors or floral shears. This helps to create a fresh cut, allowing the flowers to absorb water more effectively.
Remove leaves below the water line:
Remove any leaves or foliage that will be submerged in water, as they can decompose and promote bacterial growth in the water.
Use clean water:
Fill a clean vase with fresh, lukewarm water. Avoid using hot or cold water, as extremetemperatures can damage the flowers. Avoid using filter water
Add flower food:
If provided, add the flower food packet that often comes with the flowers to the water. Flowerfood contains nutrients and anti-bacterial agents that can help extend the life of the flowers.
Change the water regularly:
Change the water in the vase every two to three days, or whenever it appears cloudy. Be sure toalso re-trim the stems at an angle each time you change the water.
Keep flowers away from direct sunlight and drafts:
Place the vase of flowers in a cool, shaded spot away from direct sunlight and drafts. Avoidplacing them near ripening fruits, as fruits release ethylene gas which can cause flowers to agemore quickly.
Mist the flowers:
If the air in your home is dry, mist the flowers with a spray bottle filled with clean water to helpkeep them hydrated.
Remove wilted flowers:
Remove any wilted or dead flowers from the arrangement to prevent them from affecting theother flowers.
Handle with care:
Avoid handling the flowers excessively, as this can cause damage to the petals or stems.
Following these care tips can help extend the lifespan of your fresh flowers and keep them looking beautiful for longer. It's important to note that different types of flowers may have specific care requirements.
